Jain Irrigation Ltd bags Rs 975-cr MP irrigation project

New Delhi : Jalgaon-based irrigation major Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd has said it has received letter of intent (LoI) from Madhya Pradesh Government's Water Resources Department to execute the Mohanpura irrigation project.

The order, worth Rs 975 crore, is the single largest one received by the company in India so far.

The Mohanpura project is the largest of its kind 'Future ready' micro-irrigation project. In this project, the total cultivable command area of 228,475 acreis to be brought under micro irrigation, the company said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.

The project is to be completed in 36 months.

Jain Irrigation said the project involves survey, design, engineering, planning and execution of various components like pump houses and pumping machinery electrical sub stations, delivery chambers, civil work, up-gradation of 'Rojya' dam, MS rising mains, distribution network up to 1 Ha chak, automation, SCADA for the pumping and network system and Operation and Maintenance for three years after completion.

The pressurized piped irrigation project will be designed in such a way that every farmer will be able to attach his micro irrigation systems at a later stage to the outlets provided at every 1 Ha level. This will ensure delivery of water to each farm, the company said.

The project is located in Rajgarh district, one of the under-developed districts in Madhya Pradesh. Completion of this project will help save water while also increasing the yield/productivity of the crops being grown in the project area. This is expected to help in doubling of farmers' income.

“The 'resource to root” is revolutionary concept, where water is delivered from water source to root zone of the plants through drip irrigation, resulting in high water use efficiency. This will transform the way irrigation projects are conceptualized, designed and executed in India. This shall also create new avenues and open doors for 'More Crop Per Drop' through micro irrigation in the huge command area of 228,475 acres", said Jain Irrigation Vice Chairman and Managing Director Anil Jain.
