L&T secures Rs 1394 crore irrigation project in MP

Mumbai : Engineering & construction major L&T has said it has secured an EPC (engineering, procurement & construction) order worth Rs 1394 crore from Madhya Pradesh Government for a major irrigation project.

The company said the order is the fourth one it has secured from the state's Water Resources Department and is for execution of the Kundalia irrigation project - right bank.

The project envisages provision of water for micro-irrigation to more than 64,000 hector of cultivable land in the command area of Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh by lifting water from right bank of the Kundalia reservoir on the Kalisindh River.

The scope also includes survey, investigation, design, procurement, construction and installing of pumping system, rising and gravity main line, branch lines and distribution network with control and automation system.

With the order, the company said it has has booked orders worth Rs 12000 crore under its water & effluent treatment vertical so far during the current financial year.

News reports indicate that L&T is eyeing an order book of over Rs 20000 crore during this year from the water sector alone, mostly from wastewater treatment and irrigation projects.

In the previous financial year, L&T had an order book of Rs 28000 crore in this vertical.
