SPML Infra bags Rs 883-cr water supply, irrigation orders

New Delhi : Water infrastructure developer SPML Infra Ltd has said it has secured four new water supply and irrigation projects worth over Rs 883 crore in Gujarat, Manipur and Punjab.

The first and the largest single order received by the company is the Rs 723.87 crore order for Phase-3 of Saurashtra-Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI Yojana), an ambitious project initiated by the Gujarat Government.

The project envisages to divert one million acre feet water (1 MAF) to 115 reservoirs through 1115 km pipeline network to irrigate 1.8 million hectare land and provide drinking water facility to 39 million people across 132 towns and 11456 villages in the state.

The project will help address the scarcity of drinking water in Saurashtra, Kutch and North Gujarat regions.

The Link 4B, Package 7 project envisages supplying and laying of 139 km 1,000-2,700 mm dia pipeline along with construction of pumping station and 10 years of operation & maintenance (O&M).

SPML Infra has executed Phase-1 and 2 projects under SAUNI Yojana.

The company, along with jont venture partner Shristi Infrastructure Development, also bagged a project worth Rs 103.60 crore in Punjab. The project involves construction of water distribution network and 24x7 domestic water supply, along with sewerage management system and storm water drainage network for Ludhiana Smart City with five years of O&M.

The remaining two orders are in Manipur. The orders worth Rs 33.30 crore and Rs 22.31 crore are for augmentation of water supply system in Senapati and Churachandpur districts with the idea of promoting tourism under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS).

The company has bagged the order from the Public Health Engineering Department, Manipur.

“We are very happy that our association with SAUNI Yojana, India’s largest irrigation and drinking water project is further strengthened with the repeat orders and the largest one received recently", said SPML Infra Limited Chairman Subhash Sethi.

"Our experience in executing urban water supply projects in different states has given us advantage of getting the water distribution and sewerage management project for Ludhiana Smart City. The water supply augmentation projects in Manipur will help us in making inroads to more water projects in north eastern states where our company is already present with a number of power transmission & distribution projects", he said.

"The financials from these new orders should start reflecting in the company's books from the first quarter of FY-20 and it will strengthen our growth and improve profitability", Sethi added.

Water is one of the world’s gravest risks, according to the Global Risks Report published earlier this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos. And the situation is actually worse than it might seem at first glance.
